Leila and Damien De Blinkk | 1.4 Interview

Leila and Damien talk to 1.4 about their latest commercial for Ergo and how they work better as a pair...

Is it easier working as a pair? Could you imagine doing it alone? It insures there is always a critical

I-D Online | interview of Leila and Damien de Blinkk

Read Lily Avnet Brilliant interview of Leila and Damien de Blinkk for I-D Online that gives you an insight into the mind of the directors of French Connection A/W 2011 campaign:

"We never think in ‘buy this’ terms. We think in terms of expressing an idea in a certain way that we hope is “en dehors des chemins battus” (out of the usual roads). If it works, a connection will happen, a trace will stay. "

"The moods came from this search for the essence specific to each article of clothing that would become a kind of subtle, living incarnation of it. We looked for the feminine and masculine qualities of each piece, for its relationship to our skin, to our emotions, expectations and projections of ourselves."

Leila & Damien de Blinkk | French Connection AW11 - The Suit & Shorts Vs Skirt

Two more brilliant instalments from Leila & Damien's latest campaign for French Connection.

The first features 'The Suit'. A powerful ally that gives it's wearer whatever he wants, without it he is nothing - a fresh take on fashion advertising.
And in the second we see hero garment 'The Skirt' in a face off with 'The Shorts' to decide who will be crowned table tennis champion.

Production by OneSix7 Productions
Advertising Agency 101 London

If only all garments could settle their differences over a game of ping-pong, the world would be a better place. There's not much between these two titans of the fashion world. Watch out for some outrageous showboating from the shorts which serves only to further anger the proud skirt. Spare a thought for the ping-pong ball, an innocent victim in this garment grudge match.

Leila & Damien de Blinkk | French Connection AW11 Videos

French Connection have released the first of Leila & Damien's adverts for this autumns collection.
The two shorts place 'the blouse' and 'the lucky shirt' as their subject - making the clothes as the subject.

Production by OneSix7 Productions
Advertising Agency 101 London

Not all men are born equal and not all shirts are lucky. But the man who possesses a lucky shirt is a collar and cuffs above the competition. And should you find yourself caught up in an imaginary bullfight, it pays to have a shirt to hand. Better still, a lucky shirt, with an ace up your sleeve.

The Blouse. The Shirt's better half. Delicate and ethereal, the blouse knows it looks good in natural light and is not afraid to flaunt it. Naughty blouse.

Leila & Damien de Blinkk | French Connection presents ‘You are…?’ Spring Summer 2011

Are you ready for the challenge?

For Spring 2011, French Connection worked again with Leila and Damien de Blinkk continuing to question what it means to be a man or a woman. The ‘You Are Man?’ and ‘You Are Woman?’ campaign follows on from the two award-winning 2010 campaigns featuring The Man and The Woman. This season the scenarios confront the viewer with the questions ‘You are man?’ and ‘You are woman?’.

Blinkk: French Connection SS11 - You Are Man? Pole from OneSix7 on Vimeo.

For two weeks, the team set up ‘THE MAN CAMP’ on the Isle of Malta and ‘THE WOMAN CAMP’ on the Isle of Gozo and dared our ambassadors to discover what it meant to be a man or a woman in the twenty-first century. Exploring ideas of how gender and society dictate how we are meant to act, we asked them to perform a series of tasks (ride a horse in the sea, look spectacular atop an inflatable animal, dance on piano keys, wrestle a biker…the list goes on) – all of these were captured on film to help define whether ‘You are man?’ or ‘You are woman?’.
Our Ambassadors of Manhood
Bertrand Le Pluard We found Bert on the streets of Paris. In his own words: “I’m an image-maker, illiterate diarist, suburban freak, 99 cents oracle, hippie whore, style remedy, digital crash, socialised hermit and ego sharman.”
Daniel Hills Dan was discovered lurking on the streets of London. He is a surfer, famed polymath and a musician in a band called Friendship.
Paul Hamy A French-American artist based in Paris. Paul was one of the founders of the French arts collective Pain-O-Chokolat and, when he finds time, models for Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent.
Our Ambassadors of Womanhood
Ludmilla Dom Perignon We found Ludmilla in Paris. She loves horse (which are sadly in short supply in the City of Light) and can also play the piano with her feet. Clever girl.
Simone Van Werkhoven Has an amazing name. Simone is achingly hip and hails from Holland but lives round the corner from Ludmilla in Paris.
Eden Clark Eden grew up on the glamorous Isle of Wight and occasionally appears on the cover of Vogue.
Polina Sova Loves to speak Norwegian mingled with Russian as she graffitis in East London. She learnt to roller-skate powered by fire extinguishers for our short films.

French Connection AW10 launched today with another ground breaking campaign shot and directed by our very own Leila and Damien de Blinkk, joining them this season as Director of Photography was cinematographer Edu Grant, who created imagery in A single man & Buried.
Once again the brand divides the collection into two distinctive personas, The Man, The Woman, exploring their interaction with their environment. Shot on location the campaign offers a voyeuristic snapshot of their lives.
This season the entire campaign can be seen on French Connections micro site.
